A Journey into Gloria Elena's Musical Universe

In a recent Mini MBS session, Gloria Elena, a rising artist with a unique musical identity, took us on a delightful journey through the anecdotes and inspirations that shape her craft. From the genesis of her stage name to the challenges and triumphs of her musical odyssey, Gloria shared the intricacies of her story.

The Birth of "Gloria Elena":

Gloria Elena's stage name holds a deeper significance than meets the eye. In this session, she disclosed that "Gloria" is her legal first name, a tribute to her 96-year-old great aunt. "Elena," her legal middle name, pays homage to her grandmother. The fusion of these names serves as a powerful reminder of the influential figures in her life.

from Childhood to Present:

From an early age, Gloria found solace in music. She shares a humorous childhood story where she was singing in the car and boldly proclaimed, "Only me, mommy, only me," showcasing her innate passion for the art form. Her musical journey took a tangible turn when she acquired her first guitar in fifth or sixth grade, a classical guitar with nylon strings. A humorous twist ensued when, as a child, she replaced the nylon strings with metal ones, an unconventional move that garnered attention.

"Change in the Weather": A Song Rooted in Personal Experiences:

One of the highlights of the session was Gloria's discussion of her song, "Change in the Weather." The song, inspired by her partner, Austin, delves into the complexities of relationships and the fear of mirroring unfavorable patterns from the past. Gloria beautifully articulates the shared journey of confronting these fears and working towards a better future together.

The Therapeutic Power of Music:

For Gloria, music transcends entertainment; it serves as a therapeutic outlet. Describing it as indispensable to her identity, she notes that music allows her to express emotions and process feelings in a unique way. The sincerity in her voice as she discusses the role of music in her life underscores its profound impact.

The Monarch Music Lab: A Creative Haven:

Gloria records her music at the Monarch Music Lab, a Riverside-based studio with a rich history dating back to the 1980s. Originally used to record punk bands, this vibrant space is undergoing a revival under new management. Gloria reveals that the studio not only aims to be a recording space but also a community hub, with plans to establish a record label and host live shows.

Reflections on the Present and Future:

As Gloria approaches her 24th birthday, she reflects on aligning her musical journey with her broader life goals. The question of what message she wants to share through her music takes center stage. Her journey is not just about music; it's about the impact she wants to make and the stories she aims to tell.

Advice for Aspiring Songwriters:

Gloria's journey from hesitancy to confidently sharing her stories through songwriting offers valuable insights for aspiring artists. Her advice is clear: embrace the process, persist through self-doubt, and recognize that imperfections can lead to extraordinary creations.
